The clamour for women empowerment and the fight for women rights have been a heated debate for a really long time. Some opine that a woman’s duty in life is just to tend to her husband and children and generally keep the home and that women ought not to have career goals but rather focus as just home makers.
Women who are ambitious about their life goals are not well respected as they tend to seem as bossy independent women who will never do well as home makers.
The heated debate seems to me as a long ending issue that will keep surfacing overtime. But then recently, in my quiet time with God, I came across a verse in the Book of Judges that gave me something really deep to think about.
In Judges 4:4- “And Deborah, a prophetess, the wife of Lapidoth, she judged Israel at that time”.
I meditated deeply on this verse and The Holy Spirit gave me a new understanding. Deborah was not just a wife of Lapidoth but she was a prophetess and a judge over Israel. The main point here
is that she was fulfilling the specific divine purpose God has for her in addition to being a wife. Every woman on earth has a general purpose to love God, be a help meet to her husband and a successful home maker. Although, some may have decided to be celibate for life for personal or religious reasons, they are still fulfilling purpose.
However, there is more to every woman on earth that goes beyond raising a family but in being a blessing to her world and a purpose driven woman at that. It’s not about been a Mrs. ABC or the wife of Mr. Rich and Famous. Esther was not just the Queen and the wife of King Ahasuerus, she was a woman who fulfilled the specific divine purpose God has for her. God is a God of Purpose. Women need to develop a robust relationship with God and have a sense of purpose in line with God’s. As a single lady, I get inspired by the versatility of the Proverbs 31 woman and the lives of Deborah, Queen Esther and Dorcas.
At the end of the day, you will all be accounted on based on your works whether or not you were a Miss or a Mrs. And most importantly, that your name is written in the Book of life and You make it to Heaven.
I will like to recommend these books:
